Linux Has Not Caught On Because Of No Marketing
Oh ya, it's caught on in IT departments around the globe. But why not the desktop or small office server? Could it be that because Linux is a FREE OS (operating system) nobody will market it?
We all know that consumerism is fueled by marketing. Why even some bad products become best sellers because of dynamic marketing campaigns. When Microsoft became THE OS of choice on the IBM PC, it didn’t even work!. Excel would supercede Supercalc and Lotus 123 – NO WAY! Access VS Dbase – Not Even!
I honestly believe that lack of marketing is the biggest issues keeping Linux from dominating the desktop and small office server. Think about it; Jane consumer is shopping for a new operating system because hers finally died. She goes to the store and sees, sitting next to one another, Windows 7 for roughly $200.00 USD and Debian Linux for FREE. Which is she going to choose? Even without knowing the difference, any consumer (unless a Windows fanatic) will opt to save roughly 200.00. Jane would probably pick Linux, and even if it didn’t work out, she could always go back and plunk down 200 bones for Windows 7; nothing to loose.
But that's not happening. It's not happening because there is no shiny Linux box, 30 second TV spot and drive-time radio ad. Nobody is going to spend big bucks for a well orchestrated viral marketing campaign on a FREE product. There’s no money in it! Mean time, Linux is not happening because the public has no idea of the savings they are missing on so many levels:.

They say “follow the money trail”. Well there is none, and that’s why Linux has not caught on!
